Kindness Education is on a mission to bring social-emotional learning (SEL) into the heart of classrooms. I had the pleasure of designing a digital space that makes the complex world of empathy and mindfulness feel like home.

Introduction

Kindness Education:
A Digital Home for Empathy

The project was a delicate balancing act: building a platform that educators trust for its professional depth without losing the soft, human touch that defines "kindness." We needed to move beyond a static repository of information to create an active, community-driven hub. The goal was to build a digital space that felt as visually inspiring as a Pinterest board, while simultaneously solving the hurdle of participation by making it incredibly simple for busy teachers to submit and share their own classroom ideas.

The Collaboration

The visual heart of the project lies in the hand-drawn illustrations by artist Sabine Rufener. At Dunkel, I used her work as our aspirational vision, ensuring her characters were never just afterthoughts. We sampled an organic colour palette inspired by her sketches to maintain a natural feel across every page.

The Solution

Building the Experience, Step by Step

My approach focused on creating a clear, welcoming path from curiosity to contribution. It begins on the landing page, where I structured the five core topics of the program around evocative questions, giving educators an instant, intuitive grasp of the curriculum’s heart.

From there, I designed the "Unterrichtsideen" section to function like an inspiration board, where teachers can browse real-world stories and experiences from their peers across different categories.

To close the loop of community engagement, I designed a streamlined "Mitmachen" flow that allows teachers to easily share their own classroom successes through a simple submission form. By trading sharp edges for rounded corners and prioritising whitespace, I ensured the entire journey feels calm and supportive rather than overwhelming.

The Result

More Than a Resource Hub

The final site is more than just a resource hub; it’s a living extension of the Kindness Education philosophy. It proves that professional educational tools can—and should—be beautiful, approachable, and deeply human.
